I am apparently on a mystery kick, because after watching Sherlock last night (LOVED IT TO PIECES), I'm now marathoning Jonathan Creek, which is amazing and fabulous and includes hilarious, terrible, fantastically slutty Anthony Stewart Head but even more importantly the funniest fucking odd couple detective duo ever in Maddy and Jonathan -- COME ON. SOMEONE. ANYONE?

I watched it, and thought the first couple seasons were awesome!

I remember the last season was disappointing, and the writing seemed different. Maybe Maddy wasn't on it anymore? I can't remember, but I know the real magician's tricks and misdirection weren't used as much in the mysteries as they were in the first two seasons, and the awesomeness factor had dropped considerably.

I don't ever remember seeing fanfic for it, but there must be some.

Yeah, it was probably bad timing, and it just didn't get much attention when it was on. I seem to remember that it was on A&E over here, back when A&E had a lot of good mysteries before it went crazy and started showing embarrassing crap like Dog the Bounty Hunter.

I loved Jonathan's windmill.

I love that show. Maddy + Jonathan = OTP. Trufax. Don't get too used to ASH though. He doesn't last long.

It was never the same after Maddy left. The emotional centre of the show was missing. No matter who they brought in, it just didn't quite work the way it had with Maddy and Jonathan. And the stories weren't as good. But the first couple of seasons were awesome :)

The, um, spiders one? possibly last year? ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH.
This year's one was funny though, with the video manips of Adam?

I don't like that new girl though. I loved Maddy, I warmed to Carla (partly because, as Jonathan comments at one point, she really does have excellent breasts) but this one is too young and also, I dunno, cold? Possibly she's not eccentric enough and so seems more of an acolyte than an equal.

I watched it! And I loved it! He has a windmill! And mad skillz! (And Alan Davies gets very grumpy in QI whenever anybody makes reference to Jonathan Creek, which is hilarious.)

Although I found the Maddy/Jonathan UST a little painful after a while. Deliberately making each other jealous = D: for me.

Is that the magician mystery one? I saw some of that on TV a few years back and kept meaning to find out what it was. :)
Now I know, and shall have to look it up.

I used to watch it a lot, yeah, and I remember liking one of the women he worked with better than the other- one of them played Lydia in the BBC Pride and Prejudice, didn't she? It was great, and I really enjoyed it. I should check and see if it's on Netflix, hmm.

Wow, I'd forgotten about Jonathon Creek! We loved this for a while--probably as everyone is saying, the first 2 seasons. It was quirky and fun and Jonathon and Maddy had great chemistry. Watched a few much later and Maddy was gone so it didn't quite click the same. I have to say though that I'm not a big fan of het UST in general just because they ways they usually contrive to keep them apart are ridiculous and make them seem like teenagers or idiots or both. I seem to remember the show was hitting that level before Maddy left.

Oh wow, Jonathan Creek. I used to watch that years and years ago. If ASH is in it I may just have to revisit it for laughs.

I love Jonathan Creek! And add me to the list of people who prefered Maddy. For all her faults, she was just somehow more compelling then Carla.

(Sherlock was awesome as well--overall excellent, but I really I loved that Watson was so well developed. A little damaged, but also a very quiet sort of badass).

Thank you so much for mentioning Jonathan Creek.
I used to watch it all the time with my parents (I know, but we're huge mystery buffs) and we could never remember the name.

Gosh have I missed seeing Giles in his velvet housecoat :D

Sorry about the anonymous review, I still can't get openID to work.
